The long and short of it: This 3 handle Monitor 17 Series Shower Control with Integrated 3-setting Diverter sold COMPLETE with Rough-in Valve is the perfect base for creating a Custom Shower System. The bottom dual control handles allow for you to adjust the shower water temperature and pressure and the top handle operates the diverter function.
The larger bottom handle rotates counter-clockwise to turn on the water and control the volume of water flow. The smaller dial that sits on top of the large handle allows you to set the water temperature. Once you get a perfect temperature set it is not necessary to adjust every time. You can simply leave the temperature dial in place and turn on the water using the larger handle. Of course you can make adjustments any time.
This item also features a built-in 3-setting diverter. The handle in the upper portion of the shower control is the diverter lever. The diverter's function is to divert water. Once the water is on and flowing at the temperature you set, you need to send it to the spray outlets. This 3-setting diverter allows for 2 peripheral spray outlets. It is the key to supplying water to these shower sprays. With the 3-setting integrated diverter, you can configure a shower system with a normal shower head and a handheld shower. Another configuration might be a ceiling mount shower head and wall mount body sprays. The different settings allow you to choose which sprays will be on at any given time. With a total of 3 settings you have 2 individual positions and 1 shared positions. This means you can run either shower spray individually or both together. This fixture INCLUDES the Rough-in Valve. The Valve is the part that installs in the wall and connects to your home's hot and cold water supply. The Valve included with this item is the R22000 MultiChoice Universal with Integrated Diverter one-piece forged Rough-in Valve without Stops. Delta has manufactured all of their Integrated Shower Faucet Control with Diverter Trim kits (the part of the Shower you actually see) to all fit the same Valve. In the future, if you ever plan to change the style or finish of your Shower, you will not need to change out the Valve in the wall (as long as you stick with Delta as the manufacturer). This saves you from having to rip out tile or go through other hassles to change the style of your shower. You can just swap out the old with the new.
